Welcome to Monte Rio
and the Historic Russian River

For more than 100 years, Monte Rio and the Russian River area have welcomed vacationers of all ages and lifestyles.  Today we welcome you to our community, California’s original “Vacation Wonderland.”

Monte Rio is situated within the most beautiful valley along the Russian River.  Ancient Redwoods yield to the spring and summer sun and the warm, smooth waters of the river, originally named “Slavianka” or “Little Russian Girl”  upon its discovery by Russian trappers in the early 1800’s.  In the winter it takes on a magical aura of misty fog over the crisp, clean  nature of the forest, the smell of wood burning fireplaces and the warm snuggling  place to hibernate or explore the less traveled roads to wineries and restaurant haunts.

In the evening, enjoy dining at one of the area’s many restaurants, then take in a show at the local movie house, live theater performance at Pegasus Hall or a concert at Monte Rio’s famous outdoor theater.  Music under the stars and Redwoods makes for a uniquely spectacular experience!

Since the days when big bands played to thousands at Monte Rio’s famous outdoor dance pavilions, our hospitality to our guests has been renowned.  Today,  Monte Rio offers our guests a variety of accommodations from luxury B & B’s and historic small hotels, to quaint cottages on the river.  With the best climate and small town atmosphere, we are confident that you will enjoy your stay and wish to return to see us again.
